Starting a Handyman Business - Would a Web Site Help Your Business?
Unless you have been living under a rock for the past ten years, you know about the internet. In fact, you have probably used it to find information; you may visit the social network sites. But have you thought about creating a site for your handyman business?
When you start a handyman business, or any business you have a million and one things on your list that you need to get accomplished. But once you have all that out of the way, your thoughts need to turn to what can you do to keep a steady source of revenue coming through your door.
A web site may just help you accomplish that need. How? Just take a look at how you and your family use the web. How do your friends and neighbors use the web? One other area to look at, are your competitors using the web? If they are then you definitely need to look into getting a web site set up for your handyman business.
What benefit can you receive from having a web site (or blog, more on this in a bit)? One thing you will want to do is offer a free report or a free inspection of their gutters or offer them a discount coupon if they enter their name and email address. This information is gold for your business.
Once you have someone’s email address you can start to send them useful information. Send them helpful tips; offer more discounts, the list is endless on what you can do with an email list. (Please note, you need to make sure you provide people with a way to discontinue receiving email from you if they want.)
You can also use your web site to start to build rapport with people. Having your picture on the site is a good way for people to feel like they know you. And do not forget to see what your competition is doing on their web site.
A little bit about blogs. Blogs have become very popular. A blog offers you a way to “talk” to people via the web. It also gives people away to make comments back to you so you can possible answer questions for them.
I know that some of you are going to dismiss this idea of having a web site for your handyman business, only because you do not know who to start one. Getting a web site up has never been cheaper than it is today. Do a search for web developers and you will find thousands.
Check your local yellow pages. If you can find a web person close to you, you might be able to barter with them. Give them a plug on your website and maybe they will do some work for free. It never hurts to ask.
Their are several places that you can go to find out how to put up a blog. Again do a search and you will find what you need.
If you are willing to put in the time, a web site or a blog may be just the thing for your handyman business.
